STORIES

Real stories from women and families I’ve supported.

Pregnancy, birth, postpartum, babies, families and BodyTalk do not fit neatly into before-and-after boxes. These stories are shared in the words of the people who lived them. They describe personal experiences, not promises or guarantees.

The whole story matters.

What changed matters. So does what someone was carrying when they arrived, what support they received, and what meaning they made of the experience afterward. I have kept these stories intentionally fuller rather than reducing them to a single testimonial line.

PREGNANCY → BIRTH → POSTPARTUM

“I loved working with her through the biggest transition as a first-time mom.”

I hired Joanne for her doula services with BodyTalk and her expertise on becoming a mom. She was able to provide tons of information regarding labour and delivery, postpartum, breastfeeding and safe sleep habits, as well as being my biggest support through my pregnancy.

I loved working with her through the biggest transition as a first-time mom. Her caring nature and calm presence were absolutely wonderful while I was navigating pregnancy. Joanne listens and understands what pregnancy is like through her personal experience and the research she continues to do.

She taught me about different scenarios I might encounter and the pros and cons of choices I could have to make in labour. We created a birth plan for an unmedicated labour, which was the birth I ultimately had. Beyond all of the education, she was a huge emotional support through pregnancy.

Through our time together, we also explored family trauma, emotional stress and physical discomfort that were affecting how I was experiencing pregnancy. I would recommend Joanne to anyone wanting to feel more in tune with their body and looking for prenatal support. I plan to keep working with her through motherhood and another pregnancy.

PRECONCEPTION + PRENATAL BODYTALK

“I felt incredibly connected to my daughter.”

At 34, my husband and I were never overly sure we wanted children. I was okay with the thought of kids but hated the idea of being pregnant. I felt pregnancy would take away everything I enjoyed, especially sports and mobility.

I initially went to BodyTalk to help me understand what was happening with my irregular cycle. We explored my resistance to getting pregnant, and I became pregnant soon after. I knew BodyTalk would be the best support for me during pregnancy, especially in those first months when I was tired, sick and beginning to scale back on things I loved.

BodyTalk helped me communicate with my baby. It encouraged me to keep going, be happy, and enjoy the little flutters, hiccups and kicks. My baby always seemed to become active when Joanne spoke to her during sessions. It was a surreal experience.

I felt incredibly connected to my daughter, something I do not think I would have experienced in the same way without BodyTalk.

PREGNANCY → LABOUR → POSTPARTUM

“I felt prepared and informed throughout my pregnancy and the delivery of our son.”

Working with Joanne and her prenatal BodyTalk package was absolutely wonderful. Through BodyTalk, yoga, sleep education, loads of information and hands-on help during labour, I felt prepared and informed throughout my pregnancy and the delivery of our son.

Joanne worked with both me and the baby throughout pregnancy so that when the time came for delivery, I felt like we were working together. We also continued with postpartum BodyTalk sessions afterward.

For me, those postpartum sessions became part of navigating anxiety, depression and the transition into motherhood. Our son was content, happy and easygoing, and I felt empowered by having support continue beyond the birth itself.

I would highly recommend working with Joanne throughout pregnancy, delivery and into postpartum. For me, the continuity of that support made the whole journey feel more connected.

INFANT SLEEP + PARENT CONFIDENCE

“What I gained was far greater than sleeping through the entire night.”

As first-time parents, my husband and I were receiving more advice, books, opinions and tips than we could ever use, and much of it contradicted each other. We wanted a more natural way to support our baby’s sleep and did not feel comfortable with cry-it-out approaches.

Joanne provided research and practical explanations about infant sleep, listened to what mattered to us, and met us where we were. The work helped us understand our baby more clearly and helped me feel more confident as his mother.

Changing my expectations became one of the biggest shifts. I stopped believing I was failing because my baby was not sleeping through the night at an arbitrary age, and I no longer felt that supporting him to sleep meant I was spoiling him.

What I gained was far greater than sleeping through the entire night. I became more educated, less anxious and more trusting of myself. Joanne was practical without being pushy or shaming, and the support felt like an inside-out approach: change our understanding and expectations first, then make thoughtful changes to routines and environment.

FAMILY + PRENATAL BODYTALK

“I also want to mention that I was able to connect with my baby during pregnancy in a way that I would not have been able to if it wasn’t for sessions with Joanne… The whole family will benefit from her knowledge and expertise.”

— K. Frontiero

BIRTH SUPPORT

“Joanne joined me in early labour as I was having a hard time coping. She helped me feel so safe and her hands-on support helped me get through. It was a long, exhausting labour and a beautiful natural birth.”

— Joanna K., Saskatoon

SHAPESHIFT

“I would do this class if I was pregnant again! Highly recommend! I had a wonderful labour and I truly believe it was this class that prepped my body and mind.”
